My unbelieveable guy...
Today is a good day, as i type Daniel is currently outside "playing" he has his little bike and his football and i can see him through the sunny kitchen window he is almost running and laughing to himself..... It appears a very normal scene - quite bizzare to be honest.
I say that because i am all too aware of whats to come again in the next 2 weeks or so, Daniel is tomorrow having a bone marrow biopsy and lumbar puncure, this is for 2 reasons, 1stly is to find out how many Leukemia cells are still lurking around - this will give a good indication as to how many rounds of chemo he may need, apparently if he has responded well (fingers crossed) there will be few or possibly even NO cells there! However, there may still be many and in that case they may not even give us the weekend before we start round 2. The idea being that the kids get the weekend at home before we go back in for our long stint. (approx 10 days chemo plus several for infection before we are even considered for home.....) 2ndly the lumbar puncure is to inject a small amount of Chemo into his spine therefore killing any cells that may be hiding in the spinal fluid. This is all done under general anathestic, he wont feel any immediate discomfort but may suffer a little with his back after.
As we prepare for round 2 my focus is that after that we may be halfway through and that is a good feeling....the main aim being to get Daniel back to health and feel normal again (although judging by him today he looks and feels ok!!).
I titled this post "unbelievable" because i truly believe thats what he is, the staff, doctors and nurses alike all refer to him as amazing....he takes each and every day as it comes, faces everything that is thrown at him head on, and maintains his bright and cheery personality. Daniel is an inspiration, so when you feeling a little bit low or things arnt just going right and you feel annoyed or angry, think of him.

oh liz, i do, i think of him every time i am feeling low and sorry for myself, and then tell myself off for being a wuss, so i don't wallow in self pity while i have daniel as a role model on how to cope with all the sh(one)t life throws at him, and he smiles through it, it makes me feel ashamed of myself at times, i know you are all so proud of him and rightly so, he is a marvel.
good luck for tomorrow hope results mean he can come home for the weekend. claire xxx
